"Eh?" said Kasamatsu and looked at the mansion. "Yes?" asked Kasamatsu raising an eyebrow at him. "K-Kasamatsu-senpai." asked Sakurai shivering. "Get back here!" barked Kagami and they had all ran into the now open doors of the mansion. "Scardy cat!" yelled Hayama and laughed loudly. "You got to do better than that, Taiga!" smiled Himuro. He roared and chased after the three who laughed and ran off. "Oi!" barked Kagami loudly and Hayama, Takao and Himuro snickered. "What he said" was Kagami barely able to get out. "D-Do w-we have t-to go i-in?" stuttered Sakurai cowering behind a frozen Kagami. "But it does have that haunting atmosphere to it!" beamed Hayama. "Don't be like that!" said Takao to them then spun to the entrance. "This just looks cliche" commented Kasamatsu. The mansion was a three story building which was dark brown in color and typical haunted medieval style look. They all looked up and gulped, some louder than others-Kagami and Sakurai. "Ay!" cheered Takao as they came to the hill top. The others snickered while Kagami barked at them. "It's just plain annoying when they constantly barge into the gym to drag him away" "They keep dragging Kuroko for themselves" "Maybe they wanted to celebrate alone?" suggested Sakurai. "Mou~! If they were planning something, couldn't they tell us?!" Something about having plans and needed to head off" "And what about Akashi?" asked Kasamatsu turning to Hayama. "Atsushi also walked off when it was over" "It seems like all of them did" nodded Himuro. "He kept asking when practice was ending and the second we called it, he bolted out" "Kise was actually snickering all day and annoyed the crap out of us all" scowled Kasamatsu. "Kuroko also vanished after practice today. "That Ahoumine actually went to practice?" asked Kagami but then huffed. "Aomine also dashed away the moment practice ended" "Midorima too?" asked Sakurai finally stepping away from Kasamatsu. "Like, immidiently when practice ended, Shin-chan was gone!" "I tried to get them, but they were all gone and not answering at all" pouted Takao. "Shut up, Tatsuya!" barked Kagami at him. "Why couldn't Kuroko come and suffer also?!" "Why do I always get dragged into things? Couldn't you get Kise? He would happily joined in on things like this" "One from each team to tell the wonderful story of tonight!" "The more the merrier!" beamed Takao over his shoulder at them as they marched up the hill. "W-why a-am I h-here?" stuttered Sakurai hiding behind Kasamatsu as they walked. "I've always wanted to check out the famous phantom filled mansion! And now Takao was able to locate it on halloween!" "To have fun of course, Taiga" smiled Himuro but a grin was hidden behind it. ![]() ![]() It's almost too clean in places sometimes. It's much cleaner then amateur animation which I feel at times a detriment. All the hallmarks of the "internet animation" but even then, I seen better internet animation out there. This also brings me to a greater problem concerning the animation. I also felt like while they seemed to be able to sustain Sonic's personality and expressions very well even in this episode, Tails was just sort of. I felt it was the least funny, more dry with gags that just sort of felt boring and fell flat. The Negatives: Short Two (The One primarily involving Tails) is the weakest. Every story is short and concise, which I'm okay with the pacing, at least for the first and third shorts remains structured and doesn't feel rushed. Of course with the obvious jazzy swing he's been known for. Tee Lope's music seems quite appropriate and I feel like this is the first time I ever heard him try his hand at the sort of "musical sound effects" you find in stuff like classic Tom and Jerry. It's interesting how much these remind me of looney tune shorts which I assume were an obvious inspiration. You can tell that the animators were just passionate about drawing Sonic's movements, you can see the fun oozing from every frame. Sonic himself is able to communicate a wide range of emotion without speaking a single word. I can't say that this isn't the first time I seen Sonic animated in such a bouncy and energetic way, but I will say that these shorts have provided a very modern sensibility and charm to the classic cartoonish nature of his movements. From the way the animators have perfectly captured the various nuanced and expressions delivered by Tyson Hesse's character sheets (It's important to point out he did not provide animation from these segments) but generally to the way Sonic moves. The Positives: If there is one thing that stood out to me immediately from episode one is just how much personality Sonic and the rest of the cast has been given in these animated shorts. Even still, if I can say one thing when it comes to the promotion of the latest game Sonic Mania and it's "plus" expansion, an animated series was likely the logical step. Unlike his previous outings these stories are more compact and are not being broadcast on television. Sonic Mania Adventures is the latest animated outing for the blew blur, this time focused on his classic incarnation. To me, that's super fascinating and something to consider. ![]() It's best to assume that even if the franchise ever goes on a hiatus for a few years, will still have plenty of Sonic media to consume and be entertained by. When other popular gaming icons like Mario have entered media outside of it's pixelled origins, none has seen much more success then Sonic has. It's no surprise that you have many fans who not only grew up with the core gaming series but also the various animated spin-offs and printed media. Not just the video games for which his origins lie but through both cartoons, anime, comics and even an upcoming film. In the long storied history of video games, Sonic has probably been the most successful in cultivating itself as a multi-media franchise. I may also add that I am a big fan of animation as well which should even things out. I've also been a long time Sonic fan, about 20+ years, and my introduction was through the classic series. My goal is to be as fair as possible, but I am generally going off my personal opinion and impression of the show. Disclaimer: I was encouraged to write these reviews due to the review bombs these shorts have been giving. The second will be done once the rest of the shorts have been posted. Edit: This is part one of two reviews I'll be posting. ![]() ![]() ![]()

This difference in cultural values came to light when people reacted to photos of former president George W. ![]() But in many nations, masculine physical intimacy is considered natural in public. It’s rare to see two male friends or coworkers holding hands in the United States where that behavior often symbolizes romantic feelings. For example, cultures differ in their values about what kinds of physical closeness are appropriate in public. Values also vary from culture to culture. Values are not static they vary across time and between groups as people evaluate, debate, and change collective societal beliefs. Breaking norms and rejecting values can lead to cultural sanctions such as earning a negative label-lazy, no-good bum-or to legal sanctions, such as traffic tickets, fines, or imprisonment. A business manager who drives away customers will likely be fired. A boy who shoves an elderly woman aside to board the bus first may receive frowns or even a scolding from other passengers. When people go against a society’s values, they are punished. Utilizing social control approaches pushes most people to conform to societal rules, regardless of whether authority figures (such as law enforcement) are present. From a criminal justice perspective, properly used social control is also inexpensive crime control. Sometimes people conform to norms in anticipation or expectation of positive sanctions: good grades, for instance, may mean praise from parents and teachers. Sanctions are a form of social control, a way to encourage conformity to cultural norms. People sanction certain behaviors by giving their support, approval, or permission, or by instilling formal actions of disapproval and nonsupport. A boy who helps an elderly woman board a bus may receive a smile and a “thank you.” A business manager who raises profit margins may receive a quarterly bonus. When people observe the norms of society and uphold its values, they are often rewarded. One way societies strive to put values into action is through rewards, sanctions, and punishments. However, the number of unplanned pregnancies among teens reveals that not only is the ideal hard to live up to, but the value alone is not enough to spare teenagers the potential consequences of having sex. American teenagers are encouraged to value celibacy. But in real culture, police officers, lawmakers, educators, and social workers constantly strive to prevent or repair those accidents, crimes, and injustices. In an ideal culture, there would be no traffic accidents, murders, poverty, or racial tension. But ideal culture differs from real culture, the way society actually is, based on what occurs and exists. Values portray an ideal culture, the standards society would like to embrace and live up to. Values often suggest how people should behave, but they don’t accurately reflect how people do behave. Cultural diversity and equal opportunities for all people are valued in the United States, yet the country’s highest political offices have been dominated by white men. Marital monogamy is valued, but many spouses engage in infidelity. It’s easy to value good health, but it’s hard to quit smoking. Living up to a culture’s values can be difficult. In contrast, many other cultures are collectivist, meaning the welfare of the group and group relationships are a primary value. The United States also has an individualistic culture, meaning people place a high value on individuality and independence. Shaped by this value, individuals spend millions of dollars each year on cosmetic products and surgeries to look young and beautiful. Children represent innocence and purity, while a youthful adult appearance signifies sexuality. Consider the value that the United States places upon youth. Values help shape a society by suggesting what is good and bad, beautiful and ugly, sought or avoided. Underlying this belief is the American value that wealth is good and important. To illustrate the difference, Americans commonly believe in the American Dream-that anyone who works hard enough will be successful and wealthy. Individuals in a society have specific beliefs, but they also share collective values. Beliefs are the tenets or convictions that people hold to be true. ![]() Values are deeply embedded and critical for transmitting and teaching a culture’s beliefs. In addition to moves available in past games, such as the Homing Attack, new moves are also introduced. 2D sections are reminiscent of the Mega Drive/Genesis-era Sonic games, where the player controls Sonic in a side-scrolling fashion, while 3D sections see the camera placed behind Sonic, so the player may move in all directions. ĭaytime levels focus on Sonic's speed, and to this extent, sees the player control Sonic through fast-moving stages containing both 2D and 3D styles of gameplay. In sections of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, the player may choose to advance the time of day in order to play as either Sonic or the Werehog in the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions, time is advanced automatically. Each level takes place on a particular continent, each of which is based on a real-world location. Sonic Unleashed is a platform game in which the player controls the titular Sonic the Hedgehog in two modes: fast-paced levels that take place during daytime, showcasing and using Sonic's trademark speed as seen in previous games in the series, and slower, night-time levels, during which Sonic transforms into the Werehog, and gameplay switches to an action-based, brawler style of play, in which Sonic battles Gaia enemies (those created by the main enemy in the game, Dark Gaia). Third-person gameplay in daytime levels (Apotos, 360/ PS3 version) Despite this, the game was released on the PlayStation Network in April 2014 and on PlayStation Now in March 2017, and was also made available on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility on November 29, 2018. Sonic Unleashed was delisted from retailers in 2010, following Sega's decision to remove all Sonic games with below-average Metacritic scores from sale. Many felt Unleashed was not the game to reinvigorate the series. Reviewers praised certain elements, such as the sense of speed in daylight stages and the graphics and audio that make up the environments, but criticized others, such as the Werehog game mechanic, as well as several gameplay and design concepts. While it was commercially successful, selling 2.45 million units, critical reception was mixed. Public anticipation for Sonic Unleashed was high, as video game journalists saw it as a possible return to Sonic's platforming roots. Three versions of the game were developed: one by Sonic Team for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, one by Sonic Team and Dimps for the Wii and PlayStation 2, and one by Gameloft for mobile phones. The game's existence was first brought to light when Sega trademarked the Unleashed name in March 2008, and shortly after, images and a gameplay video were leaked. The Werehog gameplay was conceived to help introduce newer gamers unfamiliar with the Sonic franchise to the series. ![]() It was initially conceived as a sequel to Sonic Adventure 2 (2001), but developer Sonic Team began to introduce enough new innovations that separated it from previous games, and it was renamed Unleashed. The game's development began in 2006 and lasted 18 months, after the creation of its game engine, the Hedgehog Engine. Night-time levels see Sonic transform into the Werehog gameplay slows down to accommodate greater platform play, and involves combat against waves of enemies using the Werehog's brute strength. Daytime stages incorporate Sonic's traditional platforming and trademark speed, with a combination of behind-the-back third-person viewpoints and 2D side-scroller platforming gameplay seamlessly transitions between these two views. Gameplay features two distinct styles, with each being played either during daytime or nighttime. The story follows Sonic as he attempts to restore the world after his nemesis Doctor Eggman shatters it with a powerful laser to unleash Dark Gaia, an ancient evil, while dealing with having become a "Werehog", a werewolf-like transformation, which he gains after coming into contact with the energy of Dark Gaia.
